Allie Swatek, director of policy and research at the NYC Campaign Finance Board, joined NY1 last week to discuss the highlights from the 2024 Voter Analysis Report (VAR).

The report breaks down voter turnout and registration across the 3 elections held last year, in addition to including a comprehensive analysis of the city’s second-largest voting bloc: unaffiliated voters.

“Unaffiliated voters are disproportionately younger voters – more than a quarter are under 30, and nearly half are under 40. That means younger voters are even less likely to make their voices heard in elections that might determine who represents them in government,” Swatek said.

The 2024 Voter Analysis Report (VAR) also recommends two key reforms to support greater participation, improve election integrity, and address barriers facing NYC voters.

“We consistently rank as a state in the bottom 20% of turnout, and so that’s something that is obviously a concern for us,” Swatek added.
